Virgin Hyperloop became the first company to conduct a human test of hyperloop technology last Sunday at its 500-meter test track in the desert north of Las Vegas. During the test, two volunteers were whisked in a pod that was levitated by magnets inside a vacuum tube to 107 m.p.h. in 6.25 seconds.\ \While the test was successful, the ultimate success of the technology as a transportation system remains unclear. Experts say hyperloop systems will require expensive maintenance as they age and might not be able to transport as many people or goods as their proponents claim because individual pods will need to slow down to enter spur tracks. And another major challenge: Hyperloop companies will have to acquire every parcel of land on a route.\
