Seneca Falls, New York - The Women's Rights Convention — the first of its kind in the United States — was held in Seneca Falls, New York in the summer of 1848. It became known by the name of its location as the Seneca Falls Convention. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, and others organized the two-day event, which drew about 300 people. The convention marked the beginning of the women’s rights movement, with the creation of the “Declaration of Sentiments” laying out the movement’s goal of achieving legal equality with men. The Women’s Rights National Historical Park includes the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel that hosted the historic meeting, as well as the homes of prominent leaders of the women’s rights movement.:
