Step 2 : Answer to the question "Where is this monument to the completion of the transcontinental railroad?"
Utah - Before the transcontinental railroad was finished in 1869, a coast-to-coast trip across the United States took around six months in a covered wagon. The railroad cut the trip time down to one week. Golden Spike National Historical Park marks the exact spot where the transcontinental railroad was completed at Promontory Summit in northern Utah on May 10, 1869 at 12:47 p.m. local time. The event, known as the “Wedding of the Rails,” merged the Union Pacific Railroad and the Central Pacific Railroad with commemorative spikes made of gold and silver. Two of these are on display at Stanford University, named for Central Pacific Railroad President Leland Stanford, who also served as governor of California. Golden Spike Park preserves a 15-mile stretch of the original railroad, as well as 2,700 acres of land north of Great Salt Lake. The park also includes two steam-powered locomotives from the 19th century.:
