As a result, the warm water rises, while the denser cold water sinks, creating a powerful downward flow of 123 million cubic feet per second. The strait is home to a number of cataracts, starting at a depth of 2,000 feet and ending nearly two miles lower at 10,000 feet. But the Denmark Strait cataract drops the furthest at 11,500 feet. In comparison, the largest waterfall on land, Angel Falls in Venezuela, is 3,212 feet tall.:
