Wales - The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal was (and still is) a remarkable engineering achievement when it was completed during the Industrial Revolution in 1805. The aqueduct stretches 1,007 feet long, supported by 19 cast-iron arches that stand 126 feet above the Dee River Valley in Northeast Wales. It is Britain’s longest and highest aqueduct. Designed by Thomas Telford, the aqueduct took 10 years to design, build, and test. It’s just 12 feet wide and five feet deep, but it’s large enough to carry boatloads of tourists across the span.
