Rhode Island, officially known as Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, will no longer include the latter half of its name on state documents and websites, according to an executive order announced by Gov. Gina Raimondo on Monday.\r\n\r\nOne of the original 13 colonies, Rhode Island traces its roots back to Providence Plantations, a settlement founded by Roger Williams in 1636.
