Step 1 : Introduction to the question "How many times does Jesus tell us to forgive our brother who sins against us?"
...Enough is enough… right? Peter came to Jesus with a very important question: "How often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?" But Jesus said, "No, not seven times, but seventy times seven." Then Jesus told a parable to illustrate how God has forgiven us so much. In the story, a king had a servant who owed him 10,000 talents. The man couldn't pay, so the king ordered that he and his wife and children be sold to settle the debt. The servant fell on his knees and begged the king to have patience. The king relented and forgave the servant the entire debt. Well, the servant immediately went out and found a fellow servant who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed the man and began to choke him, demanding his money. The man couldn't pay, so the first servant had him thrown in jail. When the master found this out, he was astounded that the servant had acted that way, after just being shown such great mercy. Jesus ended the story by explaining, "So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart." God takes love and mercy seriously.
