New York - The Vessel is a unique interactive sculpture in the Hudson Yards development in New York City. The Yards are comprised of six world-class skyscrapers, a seven-story shopping mall, a nonprofit cultural center called the Shed, and the Vessel. Architecturally, the latter is the most interesting of the buildings, with a shape not unlike that of a beehive or a doner kebab. It features a combination of stairways and landings that can be accessed by foot or elevator, so visitors can see the city from \"different heights, angles, and vantage points.\" According to Architectural Digest, Thomas Heatherwick designed the building in secrecy and set up tall fences to keep it out of sight, hiding it from New York City for months before the reveal.
