Not only is this ancient mission an important site for history buffs and religious travelers, it's also a stone's throw away from Iguazu Falls, one of the biggest waterfalls in the world. San Ignacio Miní was built in the mid-1600s by Jesuit missionaries, after the original San Ignacio mission was repeatedly raided by bandits. Thousands of people lived in the area over the centuries, until some tried to destroy the mission in 1817, about 50 years after the Jesuit priests fled the country. Luckily, San Ignacio Miní is still, to this day, one of the best preserved missions in the area.:
