Step 2 : Answer to the question "What is a manger?"
A feeding trough - Mothers today spend hours planning the perfect baby nursery. But Mary, mother of Jesus, didn’t get to choose the perfect crib for her newborn. Her birth story went just the way God had planned, but perhaps not exactly the way Mary had always dreamed. Mary and Joseph were in Bethlehem when it was time for Jesus to be born. With no room for them in the inn, they took refuge elsewhere. When Jesus was born, they wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger. A “manger” was a feeding trough, most likely for cattle. Modern nativity scenes show a manger as a short, four-legged, wooden box. But ancient traditions reveal that a manger was probably a ledge at the end of a room. The hay for the animals’ meals could be placed on this projection… and also the infant Son of God.:
