The number seven reminds us of the number of days of creation. In six days God created the world, and on the seventh day he rested. The victory over Jericho seems to reflect this, because the Israelites had finally reached their resting place, the Promised Land. The wall’s collapse gave access from every direction and the men who were surrounding the city were able to run right in to capture Jericho.:
