He had come to die in the sinners’ place, under God’s judgement. When Jesus came out of the river, the sky was torn open. He saw the Spirit descending like a dove. It came to rest on him, and they all heard a voice from heaven saying, “This is my beloved son, with whom I am well-pleased.” The Trinity was manifest at Jesus’ baptism. God the Son, in the form of the man, Jesus. God the Father who spoke from heaven. And God the Holy Spirit, anointing Jesus in the form of a dove.:
