Serving as governor from 1925 to 1927, Ross was the 14th governor of the state, elected to finish her husband’s term after he died in office. She must have done an impressive job of it, because she later became the first woman to be appointed to head the U.S. Mint by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a position she held for 20 years from 1933 to 1953.
