Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which state banned alcohol from 1907 until 1966?"
Mississippi - On January 17, 1920, the Eighteenth Amendment went into effect, prohibiting alcohol nationwide. Mississippi was actually the first state to ratify the amendment, but it was already a dry state thanks to a 1907 state law that, when it was implemented the following year, punished anyone caught selling alcohol with exceptions for medicinal alcohol sold by pharmacists and homemade wine. Temperance laws had existed in the state since 1874, but they limited people's ability to buy alcohol in individual counties. Although alcohol sales in the state partially resumed in the years following the repeal of Eighteenth Amendment and Mississippi imposed a tax on those sales in 1944, it wasn't until 1966 that a new law was passed, which enabled individual counties to determine for themselves how, when, and if alcohol is sold. As a result, to this day there are dry counties in the state, so if you happen to be traveling through Mississippi and want to stop at a bar or liquor store, make sure to do so before crossing certain county lines.:
