Before serving as host, Leno appeared numerous times as a guest and later co-hosted the show beginning in 1987 along with Johnny Carson. When Carson retired in 1992, it was thought that David Letterman would be tapped as host, but Leno was selected instead. Leno successfully hosted the show until 2009 when he left to start another show... but he soon came back to host for four more years before stepping down for good in 2014. His successor, Jimmy Fallon, currently holds the position. Since leaving, Leno has dabbled in stand-up comedy again, the stomping grounds that started his career in show business. His career accomplishments earned him an induction into the Television Hall of Fame in 2014. :
