Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Which U.S. state is nicknamed both the "Constitution State" and the "Nutmeg State"?"
Connecticut was officially nicknamed "The Constitution State" by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1959. It is believed that ideas for writing of the Constitution of the United States were drawn from the first constitution of Connecticut. Connecticut is also unofficially known as "The Nutmeg State," whose origin is unknown. It may have come from its sailors returning from voyages with nutmeg. Hi there, this weekend is nice for me, because this moment i am reading this impressive
ReplyDeleteinformative post here at my home.
I’ve read the story of the origins of the old state appellation Nutmeg State, and that in 1959 the legislature replaced it with Constitution State.
ReplyDeleteWhat I’m looking for is to confirm the story of WHY the legislature made this choice. I’ve heard a tale that the Chamber of Commerce objected to the characterization of the Slanderous Besmirchment of the Honest And Forthright Salesmen of our Great State as shysters ripping off innocents by selling wooden nutmegs.
Has anyone else ever heard this, and can you give me a citation/web link to the story?
