Step 2 : Answer to the question "What landmass is considered the world's \"eighth continent\"?"

Zealandia - You probably learned that there were only seven continents in school, but today’s scientists are now exploring a potential eighth continent that they’re calling Zealandia. According to Jamie Allan, program director in the U.S. National Science Foundation's Division of Ocean Sciences: “Zealandia, a sunken continent long lost beneath the oceans, is giving up its 60 million-year-old secrets through scientific ocean drilling.” The ocean drilling occurred over nine weeks, as scientists the world over poked and prodded the seafloor off the coasts of New Zealand and Australia. They discovered land-based fossils there, which means this underwater landmass was once above water. Zealandia includes the country of New Zealand, along with a large landmass 3,280 feet below sea level, and all were once part of a mega-continent that included Antarctica and Australia over 100 million years ago.\n\n\n
