Step 2 : Answer to the question "What does the "L.L." stand for in "L.L. Bean?""
Leon Leonwood:
Leon Leonwood Bean is just "L.L." to his many friends and multitude of loyal customers. He wasn't intending to become a giant in the mail order business when he came up with his first product idea. He was just looking for a way to keep his feet dry when deer hunting in the boggy backwoods of Maine. He got the idea to sew comfortable leather uppers onto the rubber bottoms and soles of everyday galoshes. He tested them on his hunting trip and they worked so well, the Maine Hunting Shoes line was born. He had 100 pairs made up and sold them through the mail. The popular L.L. Bean brand was born.
