General Grant National Memorial, is the final resting place of Ulysses S. Grant (1822–1885), the 18th President of the United States, and his wife, Julia Dent Grant (1826–1902). Completed in 1897, the tomb is located in Riverside Park in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan in New York City, across Riverside Drive from the monumental Riverside Church.

Julia Dent Grant Julia Dent Grant, wife of President Ulysses S. Grant, is also buried in the Grant Tomb facility. Born on a plantation near St. Louis, Illinois, Julia married Grant in 1848. She would accompany her military husband to military posts, as was the norm at the time. When he received orders to report to the Western frontier in 1852, she returned to her parents' home for safety reasons. She penned her memoir late in life and it went unpublished until 1975.

On July 23, 1885, Grant died of throat cancer at 63 in Wilton, New York.
