Struggling
to compress images to lower size? Are you a linux geek? No need to go
for the fancy styles and toooo.. many options softwares like
Photoshop and GIMP. Just follow these steps to get compress the
images to lower size. By the end of this article you will
familiarized with conversion of images from png to jpg .
Step 1: Open ‘Shotwell Photo Manager’:
To open Shotwell
Photo Manager you just follow these steps:
Applications >>
Graphics >> Shotwell Photo manager
When you follow above procedure then you will see a window with options like :
- Photos
- Events
- Options
Now you just open
the image file that wewant to convert or compress. We can do this in
two ways:
- For this you just go for: File >> Import From Folder
- Just open the image file with the Shotwell Photo Manager by right click on it.
When you open the
image file then you will see window with options like Rotate, Crop,
Adjust, Red Eye and Enhance.

Step 2: Try Every Option Mentioned
In this section we
have to know In detail of the options mentioned above.
Rotate: If you took that snap with horizontal tilt of your phone then you can rotate the image with this option. If you save the rotated image then it will be saved for ever.
Crop: Many fancy image editors have this tool. By using the crop option we can remove the unnecessary portions of image. You can select the required are of that image.
Red eye: We may observe, when we took the snap with flash we will observe red eyes due to the reflection of light. This tool is useful in removing this type of redness.
Adjust: This is more related to Image processing. With this we can increase the brightness of the image. This is all about adding additional styles and colours.
With these
modifications of image now we are moving towards compress and
converting images.
Step 3: Now Compress and Convert Image
Just press
shft+ctrl+S. The a window will appear with options like Format,
Quality, Scaling Constraint and Pixels. Here we go. To convert the
image file to much smaller, we need to do all the manipulations here
it self.
Format: Select the format that Which format your output is going to be.
Quality: For best quality we need to compromise with the size of the image. If you want much lesser size like few kilo bytes the you must choose low to moderate Quality.
Scaling Constraint: Just leave it as Width or height.
- By default it will show 1200 pixels. As we discussed earlier you must choose lower pixel values for lower file sizes.
