Linux Proxy Settings in Ubuntu and Fedora

First of all we should know the difference between the Direct Internet connection and proxy Server. Direct internet connection means connecting your computer through Modem directly. where as Proxy Server means connecting your computer through Server which already has internet connection. For this you need to connect your computer to proxy server with some interface like LAN(Local Area Network or WI-Fi). For this you need to have the basics of LAN Settings.

After the connection establishment proxy server treats your computer as the Client and proxy server acts as Server. When it getting internet from the internet provider it actually proxy server acts as client. So it is a interface between your computer and internet connection.

With this introduction I am going to give the Proxy Server settings in Linux fedora and Ubuntu in three steps.

Step 1:Open Network proxy:

To open Network Proxy just follow:
System>>Preferences>>Network Proxy
Network Proxy Location

Check It Out: Lan Settings in Linux

Step 2:Configure Network Proxy:

Now you can see the options like 'Direct Internet Connection','Manual Proxy Configuration'.
Keep it remember that you should go for the Direct internet connection when you are using Modem.
Other wise use the Manual Proxy Configuration Option. So to use this option you must aware of the HTTP proxy of your server. So please contact your administration for this information.

In this image you can see that it is 10.20.3.11
and Port Number: 3128

Again give the port number which is again Admin Option to set it up. So by knowing these two options you can set up the manual proxy configuration settings. Then click the Option 'Use the same proxy for all protocols'.

Step 3: Proxy Ignored Hosts and Other Options:

If you click on the tab 'Ignored Hosts', you will see on text box and add button. Just give the local addresses to Ignore by the Local Proxy Server.

By using the details option you can set up your Username and Pass word for the Authentication.

When you press the close Button it will asks you to apply it for the entire system. In that case press press enter and Give the root pass word if it ask.
