What is LAN Settings?
In this article we are
going to provide you. How set Proper LAN Settings in your Ubuntu or
Fedora Operating System. When you connect your system to your LAN
cable then you can only see the blink at LAN port it won’t take
default settings. If you want the change them as you like then you
must carefully follow these steps.
Step 1: Open ‘Network Connections’:
We can open
Network Connections by: System >> Preferences >>
Network Connections
Now you can see a
window with Wired, Wireless, Mobile Broadband, VPN, DSL tabs on it.
By this article you can get the knowledge of Wired and Wireless
connections. Mobile Broadband, VPN and DSL are out of scope of this
article.
Step 2: Wired Connections
When you click on
the tab wired the you are going to modify the wired connections. You
can add the new wired connections by simply clicking on add button.
After that window will appear with Wired, IPv4 Settings and IPv6
Settings.
So here is the
order:
Network
Connections >> Wired >> Add >> Ipv4 Settings >>
Method >> Manual >> Add
After these steps
it asks for the Address , Netmask, Gateway values here is an example
for that:
Address ,
Netmask, Gateway
10.20.3.123
255.255.255.0 10.20.3.1
After that simply
press ‘Apply’. Some times it will asks for the Root Password.
Give the root pass word.
Step 3: Wireless Network Connections
If your system has
wi-fi hardware and installed wi-fi drivers then you will manage the
wireless connections also.
Follow these
steps: Network Connections >> Wireless >> Add >>
Wireless Security
Then select the
‘Security’ field as ‘WEP 128-bit Passphrase’, the enter the
key if required the press apply.
